CRISIS IN THE KREMLIN READ ME FILE
Version 1.01 September 25, 1992
To update your CRISIS IN THE KREMLIN program to version 1.01, follow the
instructions below:
1. Copy the two files from the update disk (PATCH.EXE and PATCH.RTP) into
the directory where your CRISIS IN THE KREMLIN is stored on your hard
drive.
2. Now from the directory where CRISIS IN THE KREMLIN is stored, type
PATCH at the DOS prompt. This will execute the patch program and make
the necessary modifications to CRISIS.EXE.
3. When the patch is complete, type "DIR CRISIS.EXE" and you should see
the following: CRISIS EXE 507712 8-28-92 9:54am
4. Finally, run the game by typing CRISIS and you will be running version
1.01. CRISIS IN THE KREMLIN has been successfully updated.
(This CRISIS IN THE KREMLIN update is publicly distributable to CRISIS
IN THE KREMLIN owners. Feel free to make copies of this update for fellow
CRISIS IN THE KREMLIN players.)
The following changes and additions have been made to CRISIS IN THE
KREMLIN since the manual went to press:
P. 12. The computer checks to make sure you have at least 565,000 bytes
(552K) of free RAM available to run the game. If you don't, you may
experience program errors. You can type CHKDSK or MEM at the DOS prompt
to see how much free RAM you have available.
P. 12. The installation utility requires you to have 16MB of space free on
the hard disk while the compressed files are being expanded. Once the game
is installed, the game files take up 12MB on your hard drive.
P. 12. The package actually contains five 1.2MB 5.25" disks or four 1.44MB
3.5" disks. There is also a Strategy Grid card to update the grids on
pp. 53-55.
P. 18. The manual says you can personalize your logbook with a name up to
13 letters long. Actually, the longest name you can use is 9 letters long.
P. 19. The manual says you will be called upon to announce your initial
policies during an inauguration speech immediately after you personalize
your logbook. As the game now stands, you are not formally asked to review
your policies until May Day of your FIRST year (although you may choose to
reset the policies at any time).
P. 23. Another choice has been added to the "Options" submenu:
"Animations." This toggles some of the animated sequences (such as the
hand reaching for the crisis phone) on and off. The game will progress a
little faster with the animation off, and it will use up less of the
computer's memory.
PP. 53-55. The strategy grids on these pages have been updated. See the
Strategy Grid card enclosed with this game.
If you want to delete all your saved games from your computer, go to the
DOS prompt, make sure the computer is in the proper directory, and type
DEL *.INS. For general advice on deleting files, see your DOS manual.
There are no digitized voice-overs in the game, despite what the box says.
